Who We Are
Ygnacio Valley Christian School identifies six areas in which we consider ourselves distinctive in our purpose and the way we try to act:

Christian
YVCS believes in Jesus as the world’s only redeemer and the Bible as God's authoritative and inerrant Word. Although non-denominational, we confess belief in the major Protestant creeds, from the Nicene Creed and the Apostles Creed to the Westminster Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism.

Nurturing

We believe that support and loving discipline turn children's hearts toward God and that gentleness and firmness are equally important in shaping young spirits. Our teachers and staff demonstrate an exceptional kindness in dealing with their students. They recognize the vast differences among students–academically, emotionally and physically–and the difficulties those differences can present to kids who are tremendously peer-conscious. Our teachers' ministry is one of expressing Christ's love to their students.

Family-based

The Bible establishes the family as God’s primary social structure and YVCS seeks to reinforce, in all we do, the strength, godliness and integrity of our students' families. We are sensitive to the particular pressures that parents of young children feel, living in an affluent suburb. We seek to support families in resisting the forces that can tear at the fabric of the family and draw families away from God and each other.

Leadership

Our conviction is that disciples of Jesus influence their world as an elemental part of their ministry. We strive to enact that belief through training our students to be leaders in thought, word and action. We understand the true nature of leadership to be servanthood and our staff is held accountable to be models of that ideal, even as we train our students to be the same.

Quality of Character
Our litany is to "walk your talk." We teach students that character is a reflection of the condition of the heart, and that God cares very much about how the condition of their heart is expressed in their actions.

Academics
YVCS is first and foremost a school, and we take our teaching responsibility very seriously. We expect each child to do their best within their capabilities, and we seek to be thoughtful, informed and diligent in finding ways to bring out academic excellence in each child.
