Secret Garden Spring Dinner is on May 5th, 2017

Dear YVCS Families, Friends & Alumni:

We are soon entering the final quarter of our 44th year in school and to celebrate this occasion we are hosting a Secret Garden Spring Dinner on Friday May 5th, 2017.  You are all invited to attend.  The price of a ticket is $40.00 meanwhile this event is FREE to alumni of the school.  We are working hard to put together a program that will be entertaining and fun!  The event is our final fundraiser for the year as well so we need your help to make this school year our best fundraising year ever.

There are four ways we are raising funds at this event:

1) Sponsorship of the Event

2) Silent & Live Auction

3) Advertisement

4) Raffle

We need your help to reach out to your network of friends and vendors in the community to ask them to sponsor our Spring Dinner via three ways:

A) Sponsorship of the Event (Click here for all the details)

Platinum Sponsor - $2,500

Gold Sponsor - $1,000

Silver Sponsor - $500

Bronze Sponsor - $250

B) Donate services or products to be featured in our silent or live auction.  If you frequent an establishment in your community, all you need to do is simply ask them to sponsor our school by donating a package of products/services that we can offer up for bid to all who attend the Spring Dinner.

Example: A parent already procured the donation of two gift certificates from Guadalajara Grill which may be packaged with another donation and auctioned as a "Date for Two" item on the silent auction listing.

Our Live Auction will feature the most generous donations and packages you raise for our Spring Dinner event.  Example: Warriors Playoff tickets for two in a Suite experience for a "Great Time Out!"

C) Your family, a vendor or a friend may advertise or post a special message in our Spring Dinner program.  There are various options ranging from the prime location of the Inside front or Inside back cover for $400 to a business card size advertisement for simply $50.   (Click here for all the details)

D) Raffle tickets will be made available to all students to sell later this week.  Each ticket will cost $5.00 sold individually.  $20 will buy 7 tickets.  $40 will buy an entire book of 21 tickets.

 Raffle prizes include:

Grand Prize - Week in Kauai Beach Resort

2nd - Spring Training ( Giants )  Fun Trip to Phoenix AZ   (2 round trip tickets & 3 nights stay)

3rd - $500 Cash

A book of raffle tickets will be sent home with every student later this week.  There will be a contest amongst all grades based on the highest average raffle tickets per student sold.  More details to come on this later - stay tuned!

Living a Meaningful Life

A school bell rings and a few straggling students hurry to class.  It is a normal day at a small school in Concord.  But a handful of students are preparing for a very uncommon experience.  One that will not only change their lives but the lives of dozens of people half way around the world.

Last year, students at Ygnacio Valley Christian School began raising money toward installing a clean water well that would provide water to a tribe in a poor rural community in Ghana. Many of these tribes have no access to clean water and often are plagued by viruses, disease and death related to the uncleanliness of the water they drink. The significance of this problem struck a chord in the hearts of these students, their families and their teachers.

The school began by praying for these African tribes and many of the students, from preschool through junior high, brought in change from home to contribute to this effort. The initial expectation was that the 70-family school would not be able to fund the entirety of the well, but would donate part of what was needed to install it. Shortly after they began the campaign a large donor came forward and donated all of the money needed for the well. As icing on the cake, YVCS was invited by the organization installing the well (Meaningful Life International-Ghana) to send seven parent-student teams to Ghana on a service trip to dedicate this well to the Asiliokorpe tribe.

This life-changing trip is intended to not only change the lives of the tribe members, but it will inevitably also shape the perspective of these seven students who range in age from 5 – 14 years old.  YVCS refers to its middle school program by the name “Servant Leadership Academy” for this very purpose. They hope that by the time students leave their school they will not only be well educated, but that they will also be confident enough to take the lead on addressing desperate needs in our world, like bringing fresh water wells to poor rural tribes in Africa. Hopefully this will be the first of many similar projects that will change our world for the better and prepare these students of the San Francisco East Bay to be leaders in these types of movements.

Introducing Continuous Enrollment!

YVCS Families:

Great news!  Here is a brief admissions update for those of you who were unable to attend the Townhall meeting at Crossroads Covenant Church last night, January 31st, 2017.

Starting with the 2017-2018 school year, YVCS will be adopting a Continuous Enrollment strategy which means we will not be asking you as parents to complete any online forms or submit any unnecessary paperwork.  We hope this makes the process easier for all of our families as it also saves time and effort to the admissions team.

Here is a quick outline of what returning families will need to do to secure your student(s) enrollment seat for the 2017-2018 school year:

A) Pay a registration fee of $100.00 per student by 2/15/2017.  Late fee of $50.00 if paid after 2/15/2017.

B) Pay a consumables fee of $275.00 per student by 4/15/2017.  This fee is not refundable after 6/1/2017.

You may only pay these fees via cash or check in our school office during office hours.  Our school office closes at 3:30 P.M. every day.

Additionally, the Tuition & Fees schedule for 2017-2018 is on our website.  You will see it reflects a nominal tuition fee increase.  Our 2nd sibling discount & tuition fee for 3rd sibling saw no change. We continue to offer tuition free education to the 4th child in a family.

2017-2018 Tuition & Fees

If you have any questions, feel free to contact admissions@yvcschool.org

We look forward to continuing to serve your family with excellence as we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of this school in 2017-2018!

YVCS Parent Ambassadors

Dear YVCS Families:

Good news!  Our phones are ringing, families are inquiring about enrolling in our school, pre-registering for our Open House on Monday January 30th, as well as scheduling tours.

Thank you for spreading the word about our school.  The majority of our leads are coming from “Word of Mouth” by parents like you.  So Thank you!

You are the best ambassadors our school has.  Most of the families that enroll in schools hear about the school typically from a friend.  Word-of-mouth (WOM) is one of the main strategies that has the most impact and helps grow any school like YVCS.

Here are other ways in which we could use your help spread positive WOM about our school to your friends:

  • Tell the story of YVCS by communicating experiences in your own words. This story can be shared in person and on the web via the YVCS Facebook page
  • Write an online review of your experiences at GreatSchools.com, Google, Facebook or Yelp.  Online reviews feed in online searches and may interest prospective families to consider us.
  • Invite a friend to experience YVCS by visiting and touring the campus.
  • “Like” YVCS Facebook page and participate in any conversation.  As the number one social media site in the world, prospective families are there.
  • Direct friends to our website to check out our school.
  • Refer a friend to the admissions office by using the inquiry form on our website so that we may contact them directly.

Our aim is to motivate you, our parents to TWILDR for YVCS.  Please “Tell-Write-Invite-Like-Direct-Refer” and help spread positive word-of-mouth to help our school.

Even if you just choose ONE of the ways above, we will be well on our way to maximizing the power of word-of-mouth marketing through you - our ambassadors.

Sincerely,

~JC Araujo

Today, November 29th, 2016, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. Anyone, anywhere can get involved in #GivingTuesday and give back in a way that is meaningful to them. How to Shop & Raise Funds for YVCS

The Holidays are here which means we are all being bombarded with advertisement about Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  All of the ads present countless opportunities to shop for great deals to fulfill Christmas gift shopping needs.  What if you could shop for Christmas gifts AND help raise funds for YVCS?

Below are several ways every family can raise funds for YVCS with minimal effort as you shop:

1)  Use AmazonSmile and choose "Ygnacio Valley Christian School Association" to earn money for YVCS! There is no cost to you and nothing to fill out. Even works with AmazonPrime.  Share the link below with family and friends so their shopping can help our school!

http://smile.amazon.com/ch/94-2168240

2) Many of you are registered with eScrip, a program that donates a portion of your purchases from various retailers to our school. In the past we have also had a S.H.A.R.E.S. card that is swiped when making purchases at Lucky, Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores.

S.H.A.R.E.S. is now Shares powered by eScrip. Register at  www.escrip.com/Shares to begin earning up to 3% of your purchases to our school. It only takes a few minutes to register and your contributions will automatically be counted as you shop.  YVCS ID with eScrip is 137316784.

3) Box Tops for Educations.  My kids love to find these Box Tops for Educations on cereal boxes and other participating products, cut them out and drop them off at the school office.  You can learn more about Box Tops for Education here.

If you shop at Safeway, they have eBoxTops.  They are an online version of Box Tops for Education, making it easy to earn cash for your school through just for U™. Add digital eBoxTops offers to your card and earn cash for YVCS or more when you buy participating items.  Plus, get special bonus offers throughout the year!

4) Last but not least, stay tuned for more information to come about how you can help YVCS raise funds on #GivingTuesday (the day after Cyber Monday).

#GivingTuesday is an international day of generosity that empowers individuals to make donations to important causes on the Tuesday following the shopping frenzies of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Last year nonprofit organizations collected more than $116M (up from $45M in 2014) fueled by the power of more than 1.5B media impressions with collaborations from the likes of Google, Facebook, Twitter, the White House, and news outlets around the globe!

Invite a Family to Preview Day on Saturday, November 5th!

Dear YVCS Parents,

We are so glad that you chose to embark on an exciting journey – your child’s education at YVCS!  We are so excited that you have chosen to begin that journey with us here at YVCS.

We need your help to share the opportunity of joining the YVCS community.  Please help us to spread the word with other parents who share the vision and value of a biblically centered education.  We have planned a Preview Day for parents and students where interested families are invited to Meet the YVCS Faculty& Tour the campus on Saturday, November 5th.  The event will start at 9:15AM with a FREE sausage & pancakes breakfast.  Our Band and Choir students will entertain us with music.  The event will conclude at Noon.

Prospective students and their parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.  This is a terrific opportunity to meet our fantastic team of dedicated teachers and familiarize future student/parents with our school setting.

Prospective parents may also register for Prospective Student Shadow Days.  Shadow Days will be scheduled on an individual basis.

Please invite prospective parents to Like Us on Facebook to keep up to date on events at our school.  They will find information that can help prepare their child for school, as well as other school-wide information on our school website (yvcschool.org).

Remember, equipping your child to love and follow Jesus is the best gift you can give your child!  You are your child's most important & primary teacher! Spend time with your child every day! As a father of 8 children, I can tell you that the school years go by quickly, but they are among the most important and fundamental years of your child’s life.

Great things are happening at YVCS!  We encourage you to share the news about Preview Day with one family today.  Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can be of any assistance. We are here to help you and, most importantly, to help your student be successful by equipping them to love & follow Jesus!

Sincerely,

Back to School Night - all you need to know

Dear YVCS Families,

Reminder that tomorrow night is our previously announced Back to School Night, starts promptly at 6:30pm in the Chapel.  Tomorrow night, you will be given more clarity on what each teacher's plan is for your student(s)' school year, answer any concerns and also dialogue with staff regarding any of the new changes we announced at the New Parent Orientation or the TownHall Meeting for Returning Families.  The new changes are outlined for your convenience on this blogpost (keep reading).

During the 2015-2016 school year, the school's Board of Directors collaborated and published our Statement of Purpose, Values, and Organizational Vision for the 2016-2017 School year.  One of the Organizational Visions was:

Fiscal Stability and Growth- Moving beyond a stable skeleton budget and into intentionally managed/invested excess geared toward improving the health and capability of our school while positioning us for future growth.

One of the ways that we are implementing this vision, at the operational level, is through careful accounting procedures as well as assessing each program for improvement and lowering the cost to our constituents (our families) whenever possible. There is a cost associated with each Field Trip, Lunch and the overall care of your student.  If we have to notify every family, bill, collect or record payments this labor becomes an added cost to you. The more that we can automate any of these services, the lower the cost is to you, and we have found that we can improve service to you as well! Most of these services can be paid by cash, check, via PayNow on ParentsWeb or added to your FACTS account.

Lunch Program: Our new lunch program offers several varieties of menu options each day including gluten free, vegan/vegetarian options and snacks. Students are receiving a wider variety to choose from and healthier options at an affordable price. All of the ordering is done online via ParentsWeb which allows you to place orders from the convenience of your mobile device via the ParentsWeb app (available on the iPhone and Android platforms).  Lunches are ordered one week in advance of service - this allows our provider to purchase bulk orders on the freshest fruits and vegetables as well as work with their local vendors - passing the cost savings onto you. Due to this, lunches are non-refundable if your child is absent.

Check out this link for more information on how to order a hot lunch for your student:  Hot Lunch Program

Before and After School Care: By charging a flat fee we are now able to pass on the savings to you! For example, the following table is based on 1 child receiving 1 month of full-time care.

                    2015 Rate    2016 Rate     Savings

Morning only            $131.25        $95            $36.25

Afternoon only         $288.75        $195            $93.75

Full day care             $420.00        $250            $170.00

To enroll in one of the three new options for Before and After School Care click here

Field Trips- During the 2015-2016 school year, the average amount spent on field trips for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade was approximately $100.00, for 4th grade (due to their overnight trip to 49er Camp) the spend calculated for this year is approximately $125.00. The Servant Leadership Academy Science Camp is included in the price of tuition, meanwhile the teachers have met and have estimated the spend for this school year at $50.00 per SLA student.  The Field Trip fees per student will be due on October 15th and may be payable via cash/check/PayNow or added to your FACTS account.

The collection of the field trip fee will greatly decrease the labor on teachers since they will not be collecting funds for every field trip and finally we have a fixed target for the year, no matter what happens, so you as a parent will not feel the "nickel and dime" collection effect throughout the year for each of your students.

As you can see from the above, our goal as a school is to provide an excellent educational experience for each and every student at an affordable cost to all of our families.  We are also holding ourselves accountable to you in meeting the goal of our vision by being pro-active and implementing improvements that lead to our financial health specially since this greatly benefits all of our families and students.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Back to School Night tomorrow.  The festivities will begin at 6:30pm in the Chapel.

First Day of School - all you need to know

YVCS Families:

First day of school is tomorrow!  The first school bell to allow students to go to their classrooms will ring at 8:20A.M.  Teachers will take attendance at 8:30A.M. then all students will be assembled in the courtyard in front of the flag poles for the pledge of allegiance, welcome announcements and prayer.  All parents & family members are welcome to join us!

Here is a reminder of all you need to know for tomorrow's first day of school to be a success for your student:

1) Before School Care opens at 7:00A.M. - please walk your student(s) to Ministry Rooms 2 & 3.  This a change from last year for returning families so please take note.  As mentioned at the Orientation and Townhall meetings, all students arriving before 8:15A.M. must be signed into the care program by a guardian/parent.  So please do not just drop them off at the entrance to the school unattended.

2) We will have several "First Day of School" (8.5 x 11) signs for parents who wish to take a picture of their student to post on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).  We greatly encourage all parents to consider participating in this as it is a great way to promote our school.  Here are some ideas for hashtags: #bestyearever #1stdayatyvcs #back2school #yvcsrocks #weloveyvcs

3) Please make sure that your student brings a lunch to school every day for the first week since our Hot Lunch program is not scheduled to begin until Tuesday, September 6th.  We will send a separate reminder with instructions on how to order tomorrow.

4) School day will end at 3:00P.M. - students will be lined up by the entrance to the school in grade order for the convenience of a pick up in your car.  Please make sure you get here in advance as the car pick-up line will most likely back up.  You also have the option to pick up your student, stay to enjoy the playground or sport court after school and fellowship with other families.  Students not picked up by 3:15P.M. are automatically enrolled into our After School Care Program.

The Faculty and Staff at YVCS are all looking forward to making your student(s) First Day of School this 2016-2017 year a success.  For all families of new students, welcome to our community and we hope the first day experience is a great milestone event!
